2021 sailing

7th July

First post COVID sail

Sailed to Lymington and stayed at the town quay. A very fast sail in 26kts SW to Lymington.  Watched England 'cruise past' Denmark with an extra time penalty in the evening. Sailed from Town Quay for a day sail with Tim's Friend Mike next day and back home under engine on the third day, with a close encounter with Actual and wall to wall yachts at Cowes.

6th - 10th September  Sailing on The Norfolk Broads with Colin & Jeremy

Boarded Camelia at Martham boat yard on the Monday afternoon and after a breif (some would say too breif) period of instruction we set off for Horsey Mere.  Sails were not raised until we reached the Mere and although there was some fast learning required of dos & don'ts of gaf rigs, within half an hour of tacking and gybing we were very happy with the performance of Camelia.  Moored up near Horsey wind pump (£5) and went to the Nelson Head for an evening drink and meal.

1st Full day:  More sailing round Horsey Mere then onto Hickling Broad, lunch on board moored at the top end. After a small incident which required a phone call back to base to get                                                                                                                     some help to pull us off the mud at the entrance to Hickling Broard we went back past Martham boat yard, lowered mast and then under Potter Heigham bridge to Ludham.  Moored for the night at the Wherry Trust (£10 donation)

Day 2:  Sailed up the river Ant to Barton Broard.  A more serious incident occured when Ludham Bridge appeared before we were ready for it and required us to turn completely around with full sail up just. Potential for doing serious damage to us and other boats was considerable but fortunately we got away with it unscathed. Some lovely cruising on the Broad and spent the night on the mud weight watching the shooting stars and listening to the waterfowl.

Day 3: Back under Ludham bridge and onto South Walsham Broad.  Lunch here before a glorious sail all the way back to Potter Heigham.  After negotiating the small bridge we moored up for the night and went to the pub to celebrate Jeremy's birthday.

Thursday 10th we had Camelia back in her yard by the prescribed time of 9:00.  Colin & Jeremy left for home and I was collected by Jan, Richard and Louise for a walk around Horsey with Chris & Caroline.

Sept 20/22   Solent Sail with Rob & Colleen

Day 1: Early start to be at POG reagy to sail by 12:00. Wind NW 4, Tides perfecxt for Western Solent and sunny.  Perfect conditions.  So instead of sailing to Cowes we had a great reach all the way to Yarmouth, covering the ground in just over 3 hours.  Then we walked to Freshwater and back.

Day 2: No wind but good weather.  Unable to sail so we motored over to Lymington Town Quay. Then a 3 mile walk around the coast.  Met Chris Morris in Lymington.

Day 3:  Early start to catch the homeward tide. A beautiful still day until we cleared Lymington channel the we hit a fog bank which lasted nearly to Cowes.  Had to navigate with phones and ship finder app!!  A fast passage back, never the less.
